I've been playing it for months and find it just as addicting today as the first time I played it. If you don't really need to build anything in a city, custom choose your resources for population and scienceĬiv Revolution would be my 2008 game of the year. When building a space shuttle, you can add extra propulsion/fuel to make it arrive faster Just leave then in your city so they are defended. It's handy to keep catapults/cannons/tanks in your city to attack a civ that is coming at your city. Always try to get production bonus buildings, like mines and workshops. Build the ones that make sense for your strategy. Always bring an escort.ĭon't build every building. Also be sure to build where good natural resources can be found.ĭon't send settlers/spies out unprotected. So try to build on the hill and stay away from building next to a hill and giving attackers that bonus. Being on a hill gives you a 50% defensive bonus. Blitz is the best for attacking.ĭon't just build your cities wherever.

If you get to upgrade your guys, engineer and then loyalty are best for defending unites. They rarely will take more than 1 or 2 armies at you in a single turn, even when they have more available. The computer AI is bad when attacking you. Unless you want to attack others, stick with democracy. Communism is good, but comes too late in the game. Usually democracy is the best government. Easiest to hardest wins: Economic, Culture, Space, Domination spies can kidnap a great person from another city without it starting a war. make sure to group your units into armies, unless you are just using them to explore. If you are the romans, building 1/2 price wonders is a huge advantage.

If you are the spanish, use your navigation to find wonders. Take advantage of each civilizations unique abilities. It's much better to give a tech or gold than a great person. If the computer is about to take one of your cities. If you are the germans or arabs, you can possibly take out another civ pretty early. If you want a domination victory, the best way is to be the first one to get tanks and/or bombers. Some have great bonuses, like monarchy and invention give you a great person.

Look carefully a the tech tree when making your pick. An archer army behind a wall with a spy can hold off for a long time.

If you are first to discover writing, you get a free spy. If you are first to discover marble you get a free wall. I tend to not stock many defenses in my cities, usually just one "army" of 3 archers/pikemen. It is easier to defend than attack, so I tend to avoid that. It is also very handy to find the artifacts, especially Atlantis. Always try to get ahead in the tech race at the beginning, so always start your tech tree with alphabet and build a library (and colossus of rhodes, if possible.) You should be able to get most of the techs first, if you make that your focus. You get a free settler at 100 gold, I believe.

You want to try and find as many barbarian villages and huts as possible. If you keep building settlers, your capital city will never grow. The problem with building lots of cities is that it takes 2 population away to build the settler. I find that Emperor level is the most fun, yet still provides some challenge.
